INTRODUCTION

Funded by Microsoft and in collaboration with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center South Side Campus, the aim of this project was to explore issues of health and wellness, and how technology can play a part in improving the daily life and long term well being of people.

My team and I studied and interacted with the orthopedic patients at UPMC South Side, and developed a beside communication hub that linked to other staff communication devices within the ward. Our design helped to improve three areas of communication that we noticed had some problems: the communication tools used, the communication itself, and the communication follow-through.
